Using Android devices to synchronize with Microsoft Exchange is supported, but configuration details vary by phone manufacturer and version of the operating system. You must be using Android 2.0 or newer.
Before you get started with Android
Before you start to configure an Android device for Microsoft Exchange, do the following:
- Contact your cellular provider and make sure that your cellular plan supports ActiveSync synchronization with Exchange server.
- Make sure you can browse the internet with your device.
You will need the following connection details before you begin:
- Server name: this will be provided to you by your Shield support technician
- User name: for some Android systems, this is your full email address; for others, this is the first part of your email address (for the email address of "jdoe@contoso.com", the user name would be "jdoe"
- Domain name: (leave this blank)
- "Domain\username": enter your full email address
Use the default Gmail app- Select "Exchange" > tap "Exchange and Office 365"
- Type in your email address and password
- Type in the appropriate settings
- Accept the security prompt
- Change synchronization scope, if desired (you may wish to adjust this for very large mailboxes)
- Set the account as default, if you want this account to be used for replies
- Provide a description for the account (optional)
- Finish setup by tapping the "Next" button
If an error showing "Cannot connect to the server" appears during setup, try to switch from Wi-Fi to mobile network (or vice-versa).
Use the native email app (Samsung)
- Open "Application Drawer" from the Home screen, by swiping up, and tap "Settings"
- Tap "Add Account"
- Choose "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync"
- Type in your email address and password
- Type in the appropriate settings
- Tap "Next"
- Accept the security prompt
Use the native email app (HTC)
- From the Home screen, select "Settings"
- Choose "Accounts & Sync" > tap "Add Account" option
- Choose "Exchange ActiveSync for HTC"
- Type in your email address and password
- Type in the appropriate settings
- Tap "Next"
- Accept the security prompt
Use the native app (Galaxy S8)
- Select "Samsung" from Home screen
- Select "Email" from app list
- Type in email address and password
- Select "Manual Setup"
- Select "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync"
- Enter username and Exchange server address
- Select "Sign In"
- Accept the security prompt
- Tap "Activate"
